Emotions are an essential aspect of the healing process. When engaging in self-healing, it is important to allow your emotions to be expressed. Suppressing emotions can hinder the healing journey. Emotions are meant to be experienced and then released. Holding onto emotions for an extended period only delays the healing you seek. Aim to acknowledge and feel the emotion, and then let it go as soon as possible.
The source of emotions lies in our beliefs. We experience emotions because we hold specific beliefs about our circumstances or objects. Feeling safe or unsafe, for example, is determined by our beliefs. If we have no belief regarding a particular situation, we do not have an emotional response towards it. Consider a yo-yo sitting on a table far away. You have never seen or touched it. How would you feel if you lost that yo-yo? Most likely, you would be indifferent because you have no belief associated with it.
Releasing emotions is crucial as they are temporary. Emotions should not be held onto indefinitely. It is acceptable to feel however you want in the moment, but it becomes unhealthy when unpleasant emotions are suppressed. There are various ways to release emotions. Crying is a cathartic method to release sadness or pain. Another technique is to imagine the emotion you wish to release as a ball on the tip of your tongue and then exhale sharply, picturing the emotion leaving with your breath. Writing down your emotions can also be an effective way to express and release them.
Additionally, evaluating the belief associated with an emotion can help facilitate its release. If you discover that the belief does not align with the person you aspire to be, you can work on changing that belief and subsequently alter the emotional response tied to it. For instance, if you feel lonely, you may want to examine the belief surrounding that emotion. It could be based on the false notion of being unloved or an outcast, while in reality, you have supportive friends and loving family. If you struggle to identify the core belief, continue questioning yourself by asking "why." Eventually, you will reach the fundamental belief that underlies the initial emotion.
Emotions can serve as guideposts, helping us identify our inner beliefs and unconscious programming. They can highlight programming that we may not even be aware of. Emotions can also act as a means of communication with our higher selves. In the Spirirway almanac's LOA article, we will delve into this topic in more detail. It is important to observe our emotions without becoming fully absorbed in them. Emotions are intended to pass through us swiftly and serve as indicators of our current state of belief. Express gratitude for their presence and then release them just as quickly.
